News from Haiti

Here's a note from David Smith, and here's the latest newsletter that came with it:

Dear Colleagues,
If you have been watching the news, you know that Haiti had brutal weather this summer, with four severe storms in four weeks. This has caused untold suffering to the people in this impoverished country. To counter this overwhelming bad news with just a little bit of good news you will find att… Continue

Hey Maggie: Do you have an idea of how my files you want to upload? I'll bring my laptop on Thursday and maybe we can figure something out. ...Liz

Hey Maggie: In the sight signing group, there's a box for comments (a white box towards the bottom of the page for me) ... when you look at the bar across the top of the comment box, it looks like: B I U S .... the last two icons are a camera (to upload a photo) and a white box with a turned upper corner. That's the icon you use to upload a file. I haven't tried this, but it looks like it would work. When you click it, it should allow you to browse for a file. Good luck and let me know if it works. ...Liz PS I'll bring my laptop on Thursday to get anyone signed up with the site in the SSC who isn't already part of the website.

Wait, wait, Genevive Bolton (from New York) is still a chorus member. Please look her up in the all members list and introduce me to her at next chorus rehearsal.

Ok those comments (3, altogether) were responses to spam on the PNCC website. They were meant to be humorous tongue-in-cheek greetings to new members. These three new members were actually on-line businesses (sex services, I assume) who joined the chorus in order to advertise on the PNCC website. I did not click on their links to confirm what they were selling , although now I wish I had. In case you guys hadn't noticed, ANYONE can join this social networking site, or could have back then. Someone, I suspect it was Brad or Rebecca, removed these 3 not too long after they joined, so the coments are meaningless now. I will remove them if I can. I thought it was pretty funny but no one read them until it was too late and impossible to understand.

Hi Maggie,
Karaoke was fun and the venue more than a bit strange, which made it the perfect place. Thanks to that demon alcohol, my memories are hazy at best, which means that it was a good time! I'm glad you were there to enjoy the spectacle! Enjoy your travels to Israel! --Laura

Hi Maggie,
I was in Cusco, Peru. I went in June as a mentor with an organization called Bridges to Understanding to work with students at a school there to create digital stories about issues of importance to the students. My daughter, Eliza, to my right also went. It was a great experience and Bridges is a very cool organization. They have relationships with schools at the Tibetan Children's Village in Dharamsala, in South Africa and Guatemala, in addition to Peru and classrooms here. They were very involved in the Seeds of Compassion event, and brought kids here from the different schools around the world for the event. Here's their web site in case you want to find out more: http://www.bridgesweb.org
